Showcase 1:
Building Chubbington

Chubbington is the miniaturized R2D2 kind of Robot/AI Assistant that brings nostalgia to the users. It's "chubbiness" adds the "bear like" cuddly feel. A Toy, an AI ( Siri/Alexa) you name it.

My Story: The Cubbington idea

The idea of "Chubbington" started with ...

Key Highlights

Should look like a toy

Should be tactile

Should be nostalgic

It started with an Idea!
( scroll for the journey)

This was how I started. From Sketch, to CAD

Design Challenge

The challenges was many

  • While we can build an object in CAD, the real object is quite different from how it appears cause it has to provide a softness through materials etc. The softness creates the desire to possess, that creates the cuddliness.
  • Objects/Toys like this are plenty in the market. What I did not see was the "utility"; Why would customers buy it?
  • I was torn in between both ideas. I had to build multiple times, and then scratch it, and rebuild it.

Process & Development

Research & Insights

What Research did you do

Concepts & Prototyping

How did you build the concepts from concept to prototyping

Engineering Decisions

What engineering decisions went well, what did not

Testing & Iteration

How did you test the design

Prototyping, Mistakes & Lesson Learned

The Challenge

What was the biggest challenge, that changed the trajectory of the project. Why did the Bear, transform to a robot

My Mistake

What were your mistakes. They know you are just a student. People learn from mistakes

Lessons Learned

They want to check out, what did you learn. This is where you make the mark.

Navigating Change

This is the key. They want to know how you changed because of the problems by tweaking, transforming and then what action did you take

The Product

Where is the current product at? what are it's features

 Go From Here

Where do you go from here? This is where you tie the College with how you want to build small aesthetic products
